Embrace Dialogue praises the decision by Colombia’s President of the Senate to approve the 16 congressional seats for the regions most affected by the armed conflict.
This decision strengthens democracy, acknowledges the victims of the conflict, and honours the constitutional mandate to fulfill the Peace Agreement, but only if the electoral process for these seats is respected, whereby traditional political parties cannot participate.
This opportunity reinvigorates and synchronises different sectors’ efforts to achieve a comprehensive implementation of the Peace Agreement.
We invite the international community to support and oversee the institutional work needed to make these 16 congressional seats a reality, and all the other actions directed towards sustainable peace-building based on the 2016 Peace Agreement.
