Exhuming the truth: forensic experts and its contribution in the JEP
Within the Unit of Investigation and Accusation of the JEP is a technical forensic team, whose work contributes to meeting victims’ right to truth, reparation and transitional justice as set out in the peace agreement. The team’s task is to oversee the exhumation of human remains of victims of the armed conflict whose perpetrators are included in the JEP and either accept responsibility and contribute to the whole truth, or not. In this public dialogue, we will address the scope, needs and challenges of this forensic team as a central element of peacebuilding in Colombia.
