This snapshot summarises the highlights of our event, “The Impact of COVID-19 on the Reincorporation of the FARC in Colombia”. We heard from FARC ex-combatants from the formerly named Territorial Spaces for Training and Reincorporation (ETCRs in Spanish), and Laura Villa, representative for the FARC in the National Reincorporation Council (CNR), who discussed the challenges they faced before and during the pandemic, and how they are providing creative solutions to this global crisis from their territories.

The Impact of Coronavirus on the Work of the Truth Commission

One of the main pillars in the Commission’s work is knowledge management, which focuses on the clarification, investigation, and gathering of information in order to develop a diverse understanding of the dynamics of the Colombian armed conflict. The purpose of this effort is to construct a collective narrative that takes into account such dynamics, acknowledging all sectors of society, most importantly the victims.

Recientemente se ha especulado mucho que la pandemia COVID-19 podría ofrecer una ventana de oportunidad para reiniciar las negociaciones entre el gobierno de Iván Duque y la última guerrilla insurgente en Colombia, el Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN), en guerra contra el gobierno colombiano desde 1964. Estas especulaciones surgen principalmente de dos gestos unilaterales, uno por parte del ELN y otro por parte del gobierno de Duque.
